An environmental survey of the Satemwa tea and coffee estate, in Thyolo, Malawi, was undertaken. We contributed to sections on climate projections and adaptation techniques, agroforestry and carbon finance.
Tea and coffee are incredibly important to Malawi, as they provide employment and earn revenue for the country’s limited Foreign Exchange reserves.
Malawi sits at the interface of two weather systems. It is increasingly threatened by erratic weather patterns.
As a result of the report, an application was submitted for a full scale programme for ‘climate proofing’ parts of the Malawian tea and coffee industries.
